Job Posting Policy
Last updated: 10 August 2026
Important change from 1 November 2026. Greek Law 5316/2026, transposing Directive (EU) 2023/970 on pay transparency, makes it mandatory to state the starting salary or salary range in every job advertisement. It also prohibits employers from asking candidates about their previous pay. Until that date, stating pay on Jobtimist is strongly recommended; from 1 November 2026 it will be mandatory.
1. Minimum listing details
Every job must include at least:
- a clear and neutral title;
- the employer's actual legal name, or a justified confidential posting known to Jobtimist;
- the place of work, or a clear indication of remote or hybrid work;
- the type of employment and working hours where material;
- the main duties and objective requirements;
- the starting salary or salary range and any material variable benefits — see section 2 for the timeline;
- information on any applicable collective agreement;
- the application method and a reasonable deadline.
2. Pay and pay transparency
2.1 What applies today
The pay field in the posting form is optional but strongly recommended. Listings that state pay generally receive more and more suitable applications, because candidates can judge whether the role is relevant to them before investing time.
2.2 What applies from 1 November 2026
Stating the starting salary or salary range becomes mandatory. Jobtimist will make the field mandatory in the posting form before that date, and employers will be notified in good time.
2.3 Rules that apply in all cases
The pay or range must be based on objective and gender-neutral criteria. Fictitious, excessively broad or misleading ranges are not permitted: a range such as "EUR 800 to 4,000" informs nobody and defeats the purpose of the law.
Employers must not ask candidates for information about their previous salaries. This prohibition is express in Law 5316/2026 and aims to break the perpetuation of existing pay inequalities.
3. Prohibition of discrimination
Requirements or wording that exclude persons on the basis of a protected characteristic are not permitted, unless a specific characteristic constitutes a genuine and determining occupational requirement provided for by law and specifically justified.
Examples of wording that should be avoided without a lawful specific reason:
| Avoid | Preferable wording |
|---|---|
| "Young lady wanted" | "Receptionist wanted" |
| "Up to 30 years of age" | "1 to 3 years of experience preferred" |
| "No family commitments" | "Availability for shift work required" |
| Requiring a specific nationality | "Excellent command of Greek required" |
| Excluding persons with disabilities | A description of the role's actual requirements |
4. Candidate safety
Listings are prohibited where they:
- request money or a financial guarantee as a condition of hiring;
- request banking credentials or copies of sensitive documents before a lawful and necessary stage;
- refer to suspicious or misleading websites;
- conceal the true nature of the work, the pay or the employer;
- promote illegal work, exploitation, sexual services, human trafficking or dangerous activity.
If you encounter a listing that breaches the above, you can report it via Reporting illegal content. Where there is an immediate risk to life or safety, please also notify the competent authorities.
5. Review and corrections
Jobtimist may:
- request documentation;
- correct obvious formatting errors without changing meaning;
- place a listing on hold;
- ask the employer to amend it.
No substantive change is made without informing the employer, unless immediate removal is required for reasons of safety or legality.
6. Expiry and reposting
A listing expires in accordance with the package duration or when the position is filled. Employers must deactivate listings promptly: a position that has been filled but remains active wastes candidates' time.
Reposting must not be used to give the misleading impression of a permanently "new" vacancy.
